CORPUS CHRIST OCTAVE PRAYER: “ADORO TE DEVOTE” (I adore You devoutly).

CORPUS CHRIST OCTAVE PRAYER: “ADORO TE DEVOTE” (I adore You devoutly).

Adoro te devote, latens Deltas…
O Godhead hid; devoutly I adore thee,
Who truly art within the forms before me;
To thee my heart I bow with bended knee,
As failing quite in contemplating thee (Hymn, Adoro te devote).

These are the opening words of the hymn Saint Thomas wrote for the solemnity of Corpus Christi at the request of Pope Urban IV on 1264.

It is prayed and meditated upon during the octave (8 days) which follows the solemnity and wonderfully expresses our faith in and love for Jesus’ real presence in the Most Blessed Eucharist.

The English translation of the original Latin hymn is on the meme.
