SEVILLE HOLY WEEK 2017 PREPARATIONS (2)
HERMANDAD DEL MUSEO
Founded in 1575 by a guild of silversmiths at the St. Andrew Parish, the Hermandad (Confraternity) del Museo makes its penitential procession on Holy Monday every year.
The processional floats of the confraternity are Nuestro Señor Jesucristo de la Sagrada Expiración (Our Lord Jesus Christ of the Holy Expiration, since it features Our Lord during the final moments of his life before expiring to death), and María Santísima de las Aguas (Holy Mary of the Waters), which is the patron saint of the Sevillian water company, Emasesa.
Around 1000 Nazarenes participate during the Holy Monday procession. The Confraternity’s chapel is found within the vicinity of the Museum of Bellas Artes of Seville, from which it derives its short name. Its official name is Real, Ilustre y Fervorosa Hermandad del Santísimo Sacramento y Archicofradía de Nazarenos de la Sagrada Expiración de Nuestro Señor Jesucristo y María Santísima de las Aguas.
