STRUGGLE AGAINST LAZINESS.
Sloth or laziness, is a capital sin which perhaps, is the easiest path to go to hell. The reason? One does not have to exert effort to do evil actions and to omit good actions. From sloth arise a lot of evils: spiritual indolence, impurity, disobedience, indifference, irresponsibility, anger, despair, theft, and so on.
Remember the servant in the Parable of the talents who buried his Master’s talent and did nothing and his master’s reaction upon his arrival?
“But his master answered him, ‘You wicked and slothful servant! You knew that I reap where I have not sowed, and gather where I have not winnowed? Then you ought to have invested my money with the bankers, and at my coming I should have received what was my own with interest. So take the talent from him, and give it to him who has the ten talents. For to every one who has will more be given, and he will have abundance; but from him who has not, even what he has will be taken away. And cast the worthless servant into the outer darkness; there men will weep and gnash their teeth.” (Mt 25: 26-30)
Dear brethren in Christ, may we renew our struggle against the manifestations of sloth, laziness and idleness, say ‘no’ to them out of love for God and for others. In this way and with the help of God’s grace, we will grow in all virtues, especially fortitude, which is indispensable to acquire all the virtues, and to follow Christ perseveringly in spite of the difficulties this path entails.
