POPE FRANCIS RENEWS APPEAL FOR PEACE AND HELP FOR ALEPPO, SYRIA
During today’s General Audience, Pope Francis, departing from his prepared text, has appealed once again for peace and help for the suffering nation of Syria, in particular, the city of Aleppo where after an unsuccessful ceasefire, the lives of 250,000 Aleppo residents are in peril due to the concentrated bombardments and air-strikes on the insurgent-held areas.
Pope Franics said:
“My thought goes once again to beloved and martyred Syria. Tragic news continues to reach me on the fate of the populations of Aleppo, to whom I feel united in their suffering, through prayer and spiritual closeness. In expressing profound grief and intense concern for all that is happening in this already martyred city, where children, elderly, the sick, young people, old people, so many die … I renew to all the appeal to commit themselves with all their strength to the protection of civilians as an imperative and urgent obligation. I appeal to the conscience of those responsible for the bombardments, who will have to render account before God!”
Dear brethren in Christ, let us keep on praying for this intention daily. Lord, protect your children. Listen to our pleas, and may those who are responsible for this war which has brought so much suffering to countless lives, come to their senses and mend their ways so that peace would prevail in Syria.
